This is the third and final new art update before I head out for Cincy Comic Con. Like my previous piece Maester Cressen this was done for the Game of Thrones card game. However, this time around I got to paint some more well known characters, The Hound and the little twat Joffrey.
This piece was one of my particular favs. It allowed me to paint a lot of things I do not normally get to and I had a lot of fun playing with the color palette.
I will have prints of this piece with me at Cincy Comic Con in the artist ally space D-13.
I hope you have enjoyed all the updates, and hope to see you this weekend in Cincy.
Hey everyone I have a few announcements today. For one this weekend Sept 12th and 13th I will have a booth at Cincy Comic Con's artist ally. At booth D-13.
Now in celebration I will be uploading newly published work for the next few days. The first of which is Maester Cressen. Which was done for FFG's Game of Thrones CCG.
The coolest thing that happened while working on this piece was it was during the weeks of a local Ren Faire. And man there is no better coincidence than that. I got some of the most killer reference ever.
This piece along with many other prints will be available for sale next weekend. Don't miss out.
This illustration called Wolfsbane was my first card done for a different FFG product called Talisman. It was illustrated for their expansion The Blood Moon.
This unlike my normal high fantasy work takes place in a Gothic horror setting which gave me a nice opportunity to play with the mood of the setting. All in all I was quite pleased with this piece and really excited to work on Talisman.
Since this first piece I had done some more work for Talisman which has been some of my best work as of late. I do really like working on this product as well as with the great AD's at FFG.
The next post will be the last in the Massive Update series and will feature more card work. And do not worry I have been saving the best for last. Get ready to see my personal absolute favorite L5R card that I illustrated.
Continuing with part 5 is an update that was a bit surprising. This is a card entitled Brother James Xavier done for the FFG card game for Call of Cthulhu. The set this card is for is the set Lost Rites which is scheduled for release July 2012. Seeing as the set isn't out yet I was not expecting this illustration to be a part of the massive update. However, quite serendipitously I got an e-mail from my AD letting me know the card was previewed on FFG's site. Thus here is the card ready and raring to go for the massive update.
As far as the art goes I think the part I enjoyed most about this one was the face. I had a great model in a friend of mine Jim and I think he really helped shape the character.
That is all for part 5 stay tuned for part 6 which will once again feature some more L5R card work.
I know I had linked to this before but I thought I would upload it anyway. This is the full version of the card that FFG had uploaded to their website.
Again check the flavor text it is pretty awesome.
Normally I like to show my process before I show my finish but in this instance I was not able to. But I decided to show them anyhow.
These are some of the studies I worked up for the card Expulsion from the Order.
The top left is the value version and the rest are different color tests. As you can tell from the finish, the study that was chosen was the one on the bottom right.
Hope everyone enjoys seeing my studies.
This is a card I illustrated for FFG's Call of Cthulhu card game. It is entitled Expulsion from the Order. As usual it is painted using Corel Painter.
The card is for an upcoming card set. You can read a bit on the set on Fantasy Flight's website. The sample card they displayed for the article on the site just happened to be this one. Which was really awesome to see.
The card looks great and I really love the flavor text they gave the card. "We are no longer in need of your services...but you may still be of some value."
I hope everyone likes it and don't forget to pick up a copy when it is released.
So I have been meaning to give this update for awhile but I keep forgetting. Over the summer I was extremely fortunate to get work with Fantasy Flight Games. They had me illustrate for one of their trading card games. I just wanted to express how great of an experience it was. Zoe and Mike were great to work with, it was really a lot of fun. Hopefully I will work with them again soon.
The product I worked on should be released sometime in December so expect to see the art and everything around then. Be sure to keep a look out for it.
