J. Edwin’s passion for books, games, and other media are what helped to inspire his art, especially the role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. D&D has had a great impact upon J. Edwin’s artistic career. It was the introduction to this realm of fantasy and role-playing that set J. Edwin onto the path of fantasy art. He then went on to obtain digital art instruction at the Ringling College of Art and Design.

In the words of fellow artist Steven Cerio, “J. Edwin Stevens is the Caravaggio of the Computer - a future mutant serving up the past and future in one sandwich. Imagine a pulsing brain hardwired to a pen tablet, his blinkless eyes duct taped to the LCD like some unflinching modern primitive deep in some Gilliam-esque future universe reserved for the fabled immortal hero... but a new one with the big pink modern monkey brain and binary in spades.”

“J. Edwin Stevens is part of the next upcoming wave of promising fantasy illustrators. His unique sense of storytelling, dynamic composition and bold design put him on top of the list of ones to watch out for.”
